Wataynikaneyap Power Updates Preliminary Business Plan

December 2, 2014

Wataynikaneyap Power has updated its preliminary Business Plan which will act as the key-planning document for the company and its applicable stakeholders. The preliminary Business Plan is intended to describe the company, project phases, and the regulatory framework for undertaking the work. In addition, this report identifies the need and business case for the development of the transmission line.

The Wataynikaneyap Power Project is a significant and complex undertaking, but one that is worth pursuing. Continued use of diesel generation to power remote First Nations communities is financially unsustainable and socially unacceptable. Wataynikaneyap is moving forward with a mandate from eighteen communities based on their principles and expectations, including First Nations ownership.  Wataynikaneyap’s First Nations led structure, in partnership with industry, is unique, unprecedented, and a potential model for infrastructure development.

This Business Plan has been developed with the best available information at the time. It is subject to revision and updates after events including, but not limited to, community engagement, the availability of better information, discussions with stakeholders and the completion of further project development work.
